Section 12.04.410 Temporary closing of sidewalks.
Whenever any sidewalk shall be removed for the purpose of excavating any premises,
or in the
course of erection of any building, or building materials shall be placed on any portion of the
sidewalk, or any sidewalk becomes obstructed on account of the erection of any building or the
placing of building materials thereon, the person or persons doing the excavating, or erecting such
building, or placing such building materials on such sidewalk, must if such sidewalk is to remain in
such condition for more than twenty-four (24) hours, immediately protect such sidewalk by good
and substantial fences at each end thereof, and must place and maintain red lights thereon between
sunset and sunrise, and the director of public works or other authorized person shall have control
over the same, and may at any time require additional fences to be erected or fences to be more
substantial or additional red light to be placed thereon. (Ord. 165 (part), 2000: prior code §
