Section 15.04.040 Building inspector.
A. Creation of Office of Building
Inspector. There is created, the office of building
inspector, which may be filled or held by a person holding another office under the city, or may
be appointed for that purpose alone, as the mayor and city council may decide, the appointment
in all cases being made by the mayor subject to the confirmation of the council, and he shall
receive such compensation for the services performed as the mayor and council shall deem just.
B. Duties.
1. It shall be the duty of the building
inspector from time to time, to issue permits for any
and all connections to be made with the public sewers, permits for gas connections, plumbing
permits, and building permits.
2. The building inspector may inspect
any and all kinds of buildings being erected or
repaired within the limits of the city. If by reason of fire hazards, unsafe or unsanitary
construction, the building inspector may order the work discontinued or the building dismantled,
if, in the building inspector's judgment, the best interests of the public require it.
C. Reports. At the first regular meeting
of the council each month, the building inspector
shall present a report, in writing, showing the work done by the building inspector during the
calendar month next preceding and when such work was done and the sums received therefor,
and such report shall be accompanied by a receipt from the treasurer for all monies so received.
D. Plans. It is not the duty of the
building inspector to design nor engineer any project;
therefore, a proposed plan must be complete enough to determine compatibility to Uniform
