Section 8.18.020 Emergency notice to destroy.

    Upon finding by the administrative assistant that existing weeds, long grass, or other rank growth upon property in the city cause a immediate hazard to life or property within the city, the mayor may order the immediate removal of all weeds, grass, or other rank growth per the ordinance and shall have the order delivered to the owner or occupant by hand by a member of the police department or by certified mail, including notice of the assessment of all costs relating abatement of offending vegetation, weeds, long grass or other rank growth by the city.
    If the owner, or occupant of the property continues to neglect to maintain the prohibited areas free from weeds, long grass, or other rank growth, the city may at its sole discretion exterminate, remove or cut the weeds, grass, or other rank growth again as needed without additional notice of any kind. Actual removal charges will be assessed for each time the city removes the weeds;
    The assessed amount shall constitute a lien on the noncomplying real property and will be taxed as a special assessment against the real property. (Ord. 171 (part), 2000)
