Skalkaho Bend Project

The Bitter Root Land Trust, in partnership with the City of Hamilton, has a unique opportunity to secure one of the largest and last remaining private, unprotected open space parcels adjacent to the City of Hamilton’s riverfront, in the Bitterroot Valley.

This project presents an invaluable opportunity to conserve a critical riverfront property, dominated by grasslands, wetlands, mixed ponderosa pine and cottonwood forest, and more than one mile of river frontage and important riparian habitat, in close proximity to Hamilton’s vibrant downtown area and adjacent to large residential neighborhoods.

This project will create new opportunities for public recreation and fishing access in a natural, protected setting while protecting critical and threatened riparian habitat on the Bitterroot River.
